DElaware Community Composting Initiative Sites

We are currently working with  partners throughout Delaware to establish composting programs:

  • PFD Talley Day Park Community Composting
    • This site is open to members for food scrap composting
    • It has a source-separated food-scrap DNREC  composting permit
    • Learn more about this site
    • Become a member of this site

  • Wilmington Friends High School
    • This site is proposed for composting food scraps and yard waste from the WFS campus and crop residuals from the school's garden

  • The Nest
    • This site was constructed in June 2023 by Eagle Scout, Colby Wilson
    • It is used only for composting crop residuals from the attached community garden

  • Claymont Community Center Garden
    • This site is in planning stages and will serve the internal use of the CCC garden and food residuals

We've modeled our community composting program off of similar programs in Washington D.C., Lancaster,PA, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, NYC, and Baltimore.

Our partners provide at least 1manager (liaison), responsible for managing the site  and its members on a weekly basis. The partner must have 5+volunteer members ( or be a school) as well as a physical site of approximately 270 square feet, and is at least 5-8ft away from property lines. Additionally, the partner must be committed to the site and project by signing an MOU with DCCI to ensure dedication and maintenance.
