Clean Water Action's mission is to protect our environment, health, economic well-being and community quality of life. Clean Water Action organizes strong grassroots groups and coalitions, and campaigns to elect environmental candidates and to solve environmental and community problems including taking action to protect drinking water and clean up polluted waterways including:
- Get health-harming toxics out of everyday products
- Protect our water from dirty energy threats
- drilling and fracking for oil and gas, and power plant pollution
- Build a future of clean water and clean energy
- Keep our clean water laws strong and effective to protect water and health.
Plastic Free Delaware and Clean Water Action share the goal of "ReThinking Disposables", aiming to stop trash before it starts. CWA works with local governments, businesses and institutions, and consumers of single use food packaging to inspire a cultural shift away from the single-use “throwaway” lifestyle. By providing knowledge, guidance, and support, ReThink Disposable inspires change that leads to conserved resources, saved energy, and reduced litter polluting our oceans, lakes, and rivers.
Special Guest, Amber Schmidt, is Clean Water Action's New England Zero Waste Specialist. She began her environmental journey canvassing in Connecticut to pass laws on a variety of issues. She loves talking about the issues surrounding environmental policy and connecting her passion to community residents. As part of her position as New England Zero Waste Organizer she engages with people and businesses to reduce single-use disposable food ware and utensils.
Join us with special guest Christina Dubin, Senior Community Organizer with Beyond Plastics, to discuss the perils of synthetic turf. Christina will review the general components of artificial turf, health risks from those materials and an economic comparison for artificial turf installations vs. natural turf fields. She'll then offer recommendations and resources to help folks be be aware of proposals and oppose them.
Christina Dubin is a grassroots organizer, artist, and former educator who became enamored with policy, graduating with a Master’s degree from the University of New Hampshire’s Carsey School of Public Policy in 2022. She has been a committed volunteer with Surfrider Foundation's New Hampshire Chapter for a number of years, serving as both an executive committee member and Campaigns Coordinator. She believes that local action is where it’s at, especially in tackling the intersectional issue of plastics.
Anne-Marie Bonneau, the Zero-Waste Chef, will share her tips for a sustainable kitchen and planet in this virtual talk. She will discuss her journey to low-waste living and her obsession with all things fermented; offer low-cost, actionable tips for reducing food waste and breaking up with plastic; and explain why wasting less of everything leads to a tastier, healthier diet. Anne-Marie will also show that “zero waste” is above all, an intention, not a hard-and-fast rule. Because while one person eliminating all of their waste is great, thousands doing 20 percent better will have a much bigger impact on the planet.
Award-winning cookbook author, blogger, fermenter and sourdough baker Anne-Marie Bonneau has lived plastic-free since 2011. Through social media, her blog and her book, The Zero-Waste Chef: Plant-Forward Recipes and Tips for a Sustainable Kitchen and Planet, Anne-Marie shows others how reducing their trash not only benefits the planet but also satisfies their taste buds, improves their well-being and boosts their bank accounts.
