Dee co-founded Plastic Free Delaware in 2010 as BringYourOwnBag Delaware to address single-use plastic bag pollution. This was when her young children were involved in a chapter of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program and looking for a quick little project to undertake. She continues to Chair the organization and lead its initiatives which have expanded into single-use plastic pollution and zero waste aspirations.
Brigid is the Program Director for the Delaware Community Composting Initiative for Plastic Free Delaware where she works to reduce food waste going to DE landfills. She has more than ten years of experience implementing sustainability programs for higher education, nonprofit, and corporate institutions. She is passionate about educating people to be mindful consumers and developing a community where it is second nature to be one.
Elisa is a lifelong Delawarean with a passion for environmental stewardship and food system resiliency. For the last decade, Elisa has worked with various Delaware based organizations and started her own consulting business promoting sustainable and urban agriculture initiatives. Through this work, community engagement became a focus as the coordinator for small and large community events including establishing a farmer's market. Elisa is excited to help spread the word and increase engagement for Plastic Free Delaware to reach all Delawareans in particular those most impacted by waste and pollution. In her free time, you can find Elisa volunteering with the Delaware Urban Farm & Food Coalition and the Delaware Community Benefits Agreement Coalition as well as taking flamenco classes, walking at Bellevue State Park, and enjoying time with her family.
Give just a couple of hours, or dive into a longer term project, from reusable bag giveaways, to tabling at festivals, to being part of our speakers bureau or school programs, or organizing special events, let us know your interests and skills. Our policy committee and working group meet monthly. Let us know if you are interested in participating.
Initially, BringYourOwnBag Delaware coalesced the Delaware Plastic Pollution Action Coalition (DEPPAC) from many national, state and local groups who endorsed action to address single use plastic bags to work collectively as advocates for a single-use plastic bag law in Delaware. Now, the coalition continues to work together under PFD's leadership as advocates for policy change in Delaware regarding plastic pollution, climate change solutions, and zero waste principles.
